Household Chrome Plating That Restores a Lasting Mirror Finish

We've specialised in household chrome plating since 1994, restoring taps, handles, light fittings and homeware that have dulled or corroded. We strip each piece back, repair the damage and re-plate it to a deep mirror finish.

What Our Household Chrome Plating Covers

Most of the chrome around a home takes a quiet beating. Bathroom taps and shower fittings sit in hard water for years, door handles and finger plates wear through where hands land, and light fittings, fire irons, bed frames and decorative homeware dull down or start to pit. We take on all of it. If the piece is metal and it was chromed once, we can usually strip it back and plate it again. That includes items that look past saving, because heavy corrosion is a repair job rather than a dead end. Where an original fitting is no longer made, or the replacement on the shelf is not the same quality as the one you already own, re-plating keeps the piece you want and gives you a finish that looks new.

Get a Quote for Your Chrome

Send us photographs of your taps, handles, light fittings or any other chrome piece, along with a short description of the condition. We will come back with a clear quote covering the work, collection and delivery. If we do not think an item is worth restoring, we will tell you before you commit to anything.

Why Re-Plating Beats Replacing

Replacing a worn fitting means losing the original and living with whatever is currently available. Re-plating keeps the item, the fit and the character, and gives you back a deep mirror finish at the same time. It suits period property owners who cannot match old ironmongery, anyone with a matching set where only one or two pieces have gone, and people who would simply rather restore something solid than throw it out. Because we work on the metal underneath before any plating goes on, you are not getting a cover-up. Pitting is dealt with, damage is repaired, and the surface is prepared properly, which is what makes the finish last rather than lift again in a year.

Why Re-Plating Beats Replacing

Keep the fittings you already own instead of hunting for a replacement that no longer exists or does not match
Heavily corroded and pitted pieces are stripped, repaired and re-plated rather than written off
Our quad chrome plate process builds the layers that give the finish its depth and durability
Collection and delivery nationwide, so heavy or awkward items are not your problem to solve
Every job is covered by a 12 month warranty, backed by a 5 star rating from 6,754 reviews

How We Restore Your Chrome

We start with the item itself. Once it reaches us we assess the condition, then strip off the old plating to expose the bare metal and show us exactly what we are dealing with. Any pitting, dents or damage are repaired and the piece is polished back to a smooth surface, because plating follows every mark left underneath. From there it goes through our quad chrome plate process, building the layers that give the finish its depth and durability. Everything is inspected before it goes back out. We collect and deliver nationwide, so you are not left working out how to get a bathroom fitting or a bed frame across the country, and we will tell you upfront if we think an item is not worth restoring.

Work You Can Judge on the Finish

We have been plating since 1994 and have completed more than 250,000 projects in that time. Alongside household fittings we work with private collectors, showrooms and automotive enthusiasts on classic cars, vintage motorcycles and bespoke builds, which is the standard your taps and door furniture are held to as well. That experience matters most on the difficult jobs, where an item is badly corroded or the original detail has to survive the repair. We hold a 5 star rating from 6,754 reviews, and we cover our work with a 12 month warranty. If something is not right, we want to hear about it.

Re-Plating Compared With Buying New

A new fitting gives you whatever is currently in stock, in a finish you have not seen and a size that may not match what you are taking out. Re-plating keeps the original item, its fit and its detail, and returns it with a mirror finish. It is the practical route when ironmongery is period, discontinued, part of a matching set, or simply better made than what is sold today. Because we repair and polish the bare metal before any plating goes on, you are getting the piece rebuilt rather than covered over. Where an item genuinely is not worth the work, we will say so.

What It Costs to Chrome Plate Household Items

Price depends on the item and the state it is in. A small handle with light dulling takes far less work than a heavily pitted tap set that needs stripping, repairing and polishing before plating can begin, so size, quantity, metal type and the amount of preparation involved all feed into the figure. Send us photographs and a description of what you have and we will come back with a clear quote for the work, including collection and delivery. If you have several pieces, it is usually worth sending them together. We will always be straight with you about what a job needs, and if restoring an item does not make sense we will say so before you commit.

Our bathroom taps are original to the house and nothing on sale now comes close to them. They were pitted and going green round the base and I assumed that was the end of them. They came back looking better than anything I could have bought, and the pitting is genuinely gone rather than filled in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our services and how we can help you

What is the quickest way to get started?

Send us a few photographs of the pieces and a short note on their condition. That is enough for us to confirm whether they can be restored and to come back to you with a quote covering the work, collection and delivery. You are not committing to anything at that stage, and if we do not think an item is worth restoring we will tell you before you go any further.

How is the cost worked out?

Every item is different, so we quote on what is actually in front of us. The condition of the metal, the amount of stripping, repair and polishing needed, and the number of pieces all affect the work involved. Once we have your photographs we give you a single figure that includes collection and delivery, so you can weigh it up properly before deciding.

What if the item needs more work than expected once you have it?

Stripping the old plating is the point where the true condition becomes visible, and occasionally there is more underneath than photographs showed. If that happens we come back to you and explain what we have found before carrying on. You will not receive an unexpected bill or an unexpected result at the end of the job.

Can you take on a whole set or a full house of fittings at once?

Yes, and it is often the better way to do it. Taps, door handles, finger plates, light fittings and other ironmongery treated together come back with a consistent finish rather than one restored piece sitting next to older ones. It is also more straightforward on collection and delivery than sending items across separately.

How do I look after the chrome once it comes back?

Normal cleaning is all it needs. Wipe the surface with a soft cloth and mild soapy water, dry it off, and keep abrasive pads and harsh scouring products away from it. The depth of the finish comes from the preparation and our quad chrome plate process underneath, so there is nothing special you need to apply to maintain it.

Why should I trust you with pieces I cannot replace?

Because it is what we have been doing since 1994, across more than 250,000 completed projects, including work for private collectors, showrooms and automotive enthusiasts. Irreplaceable items are the normal case for us rather than the exception. We hold a 5 star rating from 6,754 reviews, nothing leaves us without being inspected, and our work carries a 12 month warranty.

I am still not sure whether my item is suitable. What should I do?

Ask us. Send the photographs and tell us what you are unsure about, whether that is the level of corrosion, the base metal or how much of the fitting needs to be removed. You will get a straight answer either way, and it costs you nothing to find out where you stand before committing to the work.
