What sort of chrome work do you take on?

Most things with a chrome finish on them. We work on classic cars, vintage motorcycles and bespoke custom builds, covering bumpers, grilles, trim, handlebars, wheels, engine parts and smaller fittings. Some jobs are a straightforward re-plate of a sound part, and others need stripping back, repairing and building up before anything goes near the tanks. If you are unsure whether something is worth doing, send us a photograph and we will tell you honestly what we would do with it.

Can heavily corroded or pitted parts still be restored?

Accepted Answer

Usually, yes. Pitting and surface rust are normal on parts that have sat for decades, and a large share of what arrives here is in exactly that state. We strip off the old plating, deal with the damage underneath, then re-plate. The result depends on how much sound base metal is left, so a very thin or holed part occasionally is not worth saving. We will tell you that before you commit rather than afterwards. Since 1994 we have completed more than 250,000 projects, so there is little we have not seen.

How much does chrome restoration cost?

It depends on the part and its condition, which is why we quote each job individually instead of working from a price list. Most of the labour sits in the preparation, so a tidy piece that needs a straight re-plate works out considerably cheaper than something dented and pitted that needs hours of repair first. Send photographs or a short description and we will come back with a figure and what it includes. Nothing begins until you have agreed it.

Do you only work with customers near Birmingham?

Accepted Answer

No. Our workshop is in Birmingham, but we take on work from across the United Kingdom and collect and deliver nationwide. You do not need to drive parts over or arrange your own courier. Plenty of our customers have never set foot in the workshop; their parts are collected, restored and returned to the door. Once a quote is agreed we arrange collection around you and let you know when to expect everything back.

How does the process work from start to finish?

It begins with photographs or a description of what you have. We quote from that, and if you are happy we arrange collection. Everything is then stripped, inspected properly and repaired before any plating happens, because the finish is only ever as good as the metal beneath it. The work goes through our quad chrome plate process, and once it is done, parts are packed for the return journey and delivered back to you ready to fit, with a 12 month warranty.

Are you experienced enough to handle rare or valuable parts?

We have been plating since 1994 and have completed over 250,000 projects for private collectors, showrooms and enthusiasts, including one-off custom work and parts that are simply no longer made. Irreplaceable pieces get treated accordingly: photographed, assessed before work starts, and repaired rather than replaced wherever the original can be saved. Why choose you over a cheaper re-plate?

Preparation and layers. A cheap job tends to bury the damage under fresh chrome, which looks respectable for a season and then blisters or clouds where the metal underneath was never sorted out. We repair first, then plate using our quad chrome process, which is why the reflection stays even across curves and edges instead of going patchy. It takes longer and costs more than a quick dip, but it is the difference between a part that lasts and one you end up sending back.

How long will my parts be away for?

That depends entirely on the work involved, so we give you a realistic timescale alongside the quote rather than a blanket promise. A sound part needing a straight re-plate moves through far quicker than a bumper with pitting to fill and dents to work out by hand. Preparation cannot be rushed without it showing in the finish. If you are working towards a show, an auction or a rebuild deadline, mention it early and we will tell you what is realistic.

Question 9

What does the 12 month warranty cover?

Every completed job carries a 12 month warranty on our workmanship and the finish we have applied. If something is not right with the plating we have done, bring it back and we will put it right. It does not cover damage caused after the part has left us, such as knocks during fitting or harsh abrasive cleaning. Looked after sensibly, good chrome should last a great deal longer than a year, which is rather the point of doing it properly.

How do I get started?

Get in touch and tell us what you have, ideally with a few photographs taken in decent light. Close-ups of any pitting, dents or previous repairs are the most useful. We will come back to you with what the job involves, what it costs and how long it is likely to take. There is no obligation at that stage, and asking whether a part is worth saving at all is a perfectly good reason to contact us.
